At least temporarily, we refer to the rp-driven, self-dependent slow-leveling group as the Caranothrim. I write out the basic idea and rules, based on questions we have received.
Just like two years ago with the starting up of the Children of Rossiel, we are composing an on-level advancement group, often in mind to counter issues of people with different game and level progression. It is a way to find common ground in the same stage of the game, the same quests, the same needs etc.
The purpose of this new group; First and foremost, this is NOT a second edition after the children of Rossiel; We want to do quest and landscape leveling and instances together and roleplay the content along the way. Through our journey, we encourage also the crafting community, by only relying on our own fellow-members of the Caranothrim.
We are meeting at level 15 in bree somewhere around February. The exact date will be communicated by Rosamundi. It is to your own judgement whether you use an XP-disabler or not. Due to the nature of the event and that we'll level together, it may be foreseen that DURING the event the XP-disablers are unequiped. Therefor bear in mind that you still may want to equip something in your pocket slot in the heat of battle. BUT it is very likely that for crafting and other activities (you'll do them beyond doubt), you'll use your char outside of the event. Thus it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to buy and equip the stone of the Tortoise nonetheless.
You must consider your character independent, as if it is your first character on your account. You are not allowed to support your character with gear, materials, money... from other characters from your account. It is also not allowed to receive support from other characters other than the Caranothrim toons.
Some currencies, like marks and medallions are shared on your account. Therefor it is in many cases forbidden to utilize them for the Caranothrim. In the skirmish camp you are only allowed to buy cosmetics, CRAFTING BULK RECIPES and RECIPE SCROLLS with them. No gear, NO CRAFTING MATERIALS, no quest items, no rep items. Several conditions must be met if you are trading something else than cosmetics: The Caranothrim have officially completed an instance/skirmish and you are only allowed to trade on the event itself, when Rosamundi is supervising. In different terms, you're only allowed to trade when the organising team clearly messages it is allowed to do so. The allowed amount of credits (for how many marks you're allowed to exchange), will be made clear after the completion of the particular instance. The reason we are limiting this is because we wish to encourage crafting. Our emphasis in this event lies not on being lazy, having it easy, or creating overpowered chars. Our goal is to reach interesting gameplay and co-operation and roleplay.
When creating your character, no initial Class/Race or Vocation requirements need to be met (unlike the original Children of Rossiel). For those who still have to create their character or choose their crafting profession, threads to see which classes and professions are occupied are available in the Caranothrim-forum.
This is a bi-weekly event held on Thursdays. the other Thursdays are RP led by Sigrun.
If you receive special items from hobbit-presents you are allowed to use them. drops are in normal circumstances also allowed to be used, as long as you earned them on your own or with Caranothrim-members. (technically you can repeat raids for drops, but it would be unfair if you receive aid from other characters beyond the context of the event.)
In many areas of middle-earth you gain tokens for the loyalty to certain factions, often by quests/dailies. To avoid that people will, despite XP-disablers, go ahead questing and trade special gear already, we only trade on the event when our group passes a trading post. It is therefor not encouraged to grind tokens on landscape quests. (also to keep it fair to all participants and to keep a smooth event-experience)
Although you aren't allowed to import anything from non-Caranothrim members, you are certainly allowed to export anything you wish to any player.
You are allowed to work on your crafting ahead of the appropriate tier of the game. You may only be lvl 15, but already leveling an expert tier we wouldn't forbid.
We use the Kinchest in our Worker's Hall for the storing of group-wide crafting supplies and as k all members to store what they need themselves in their personal storage chest. This is to avoid that the kinchest becomes to cluttered. We will also appoint some-one as a 'group-trader' to sell of all excess materials, be it to vendors or throught the AH. We have yet to decide what to do with the money that is made that way.
There'll be many more situations, but I guess you understand the general line in these rules to maintain the original purpose. Any corrections or additions may follow by Rosamundi.
Though not obligated, it's always fun to have a short background story in mind for your character. after all, we'll rp along the way. ;) But only the content, no individual RP.
Rosa will write extra explanation below for weather/chances and on-the-top systems to enchance the roleplay.
The Caranothrim is a work in progress, and, as such, is still open to suggestions. Thank you, Theogorn, for offering yours :-)
The first problem we seem to have regards the day suggested - Thursday. This day was chosen as it mostly fit the RC and Durin's Folk event schedule. We had the idea that this group would alternate Thursdays with the existing role play group, but that doesn't seem to have found favour with everyone, so it is still open to discussion.
Yes, this will be a rp leveling group, kept together by using the Stone of the Tortoise. The idea is to progress to 15, stop levelling, then meet at a certain place (such as The Prancing Pony where the Epic quests with Aragorn begin) and thereafter continue together. Of course you can still craft and deed if you like, as long as you don't go past level 15. If you complete a bunch of quests in Breeland before we all do, you may just have to do them again with the rest of us :-)
The Stone will be needed while we are 'stuck' at a given level, so as not to exceed it. That much is the same as in the Children of Rossiel group. Theo is right that we will take OFF the Stone during our events together, unless the agreed-upon level cap has been reached before we complete the area.
Crafters will be vital to our success. We must either make, find, or be given everything we have, and the only things given to us must be from quest rewards, dungeon drops, or hobbit daily presents. I agree that skirmish camp items can come from shared account currency so that would be banned unless we earn them ourselves, and I see no way to track that. (If there are other sources for gear than those above, please advise.) Likewise, no gold, gear, tokens, food, or anything else should be sent to us, either from our own alts or other players, UNLESS they are also in our group.
And speaking of hobbit gifts, some of us will have the account-bound Universal Toolkits. I see no reason not to use those, unless folks strongly disagree. Crafting will be quicker and crits more numerous.
As for gear, I'm not averse to using the nice new earring that some of us got from the Mordor expansion purchases. Although everyone may not have them, if we have the Stone of the Tortoise equipped, they will give no benefit apart from stats, which all earrings give.
I think it's fine for the group to have duplicate classes and professions, since we have many more than 6 folks interested already, as long as our needs are met - tanks, healers, dps, all crafts. People are trying out new, interesting class combos in this group, too. It will be fun to see what works ;-)
I'm not clear on the ideas about rep items. We won't all want rep with every group, surely, unless we are labelling this a completionist event. And while doing slayer deeds, we may get rep items. We may want to do (or have to do, due to time constraints) deeds outside of group time, and this includes class deeds. I don't want to max-min the group to the extent that everything must be done together, as in my experience that leads to people being left behind and then discouraged. Also, some of these deeds must be done solo. So perhaps we need more discussion and clarification on this aspect.
Likewise, I think that you can work on any tier of crafting you like, as long as you get the materials yourself or from another group member. This alone will limit most crafts to materials gathered from areas we can survive in, apart from farming and cooking. And for cooking, I think the high ingredient costs will limit progress.
Housing chests would require you to keep track of which items are yours only, and which may have been deposited by alts. However, to address the problem with crafting storage and to limit time taken to distribute materials in person, we're delegating the kin chest in the new crafting hall for deposit and collection of crafting items.
The last thing I want to mention is the Auction House. I don't see why we can't sell there for extra gold, but please discuss it if you disagree :-)
Hi all! general question - i plan to upgrade Ajan soon (to lvl 20 as I understood) and then most likely also choose crafting guild. I can pick between jeweller or cook. Suggestion which to pick? (for me both options work fine :) )
